Food and Supplies dept extends time to correct errors in ration cards

Kolkata: The state Food and Supplies department is extending the time period for correction of errors in names, address or other details in ration cards and accepting applications for new digital ration cards.

The second phase of this exercise will be carried out from November 5 to 30.

"Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has instructed us to extend dates for the exercise with a large number of people turning up everyday for this exercise at the BDO offices, municipality offices in rural areas and borough offices in the city. So we have decided to extend the dates further from November 5 to 30," state Food and Supplies minister Jyotipriya Mallick said.

The programme for rectifying errors in ration cards and making applications for digital ration cards have started across the state from September 9

and will continue till September 27. "The festive season starts with the Durga Puja scheduled in the first week of October and will continue throughout the month. People would not like standing in the queue for the exercise in October. So we have decided to carry out the exercise in another phase in the month of November considering the huge turnover at various places where the exercise is going on presently," a senior official of the state Food department said.

Presently work for the same is being carried out from 10.30am till 5 pm. It may be mentioned that there has been confusion among the people that this exercise is related with National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise that has been carried out in Assam.

"We want to inform all the people that this exercise has nothing to do with NRC and we are carrying out awareness campaign in the districts for this," the official added.
