Floating restaurant to come up on Ichamati in Taki

Kolkata: In a bid to attract more tourists in Taki, the state Tourism department is developing a floating restaurant on Ichamati River. It is learnt that this is going to be the second such facility in the state where there will be a floating restaurant.
After coming to power, the Mamata Banerjee government has taken several steps to develop Taki in north 24-Parganas as a tourist destination and the flow of tourists has also gone up in the past few years.
The initiative has been taken by the state tourism department. The project has been funded by the department and Taki Municipality. As per estimate, there will be an expenditure of over Rs 2 crore to develop the restaurant.
The work to construct the floating restaurant has begun and the structure on which the restaurant will be set up has already been placed at the spot where it will come up.
Hundreds of people visit the bank of the river everyday and the footfall will increase in winter. Though the administration had attempted to complete the construction of the floating restaurant and make it functional before this winter, it had not been possible owing to certain technical difficulties. However, steps have been taken to ensure that the work gets completed as early as possible.
According to an official, the floating restaurant will be run by the Taki Municipality. The decision to set up the hotel has been taken after a feasibility study and its financial viability has also been assessed.
If everything goes as planned then there will be special events round the year to ensure optimum enjoyment while visit the floating restaurant.
It may be mentioned that Bangladesh lies on the other side of the river and all necessary steps have been taken in connection with the safety and security of the restaurant.
