Firhad lays foundation of new drainage project at Alipore

To solve problems related to waterlogging, state Urban Development minister Firhad Hakim laid the foundation of a new drainage project at Alipore on Friday morning. The residents of the area had requested the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) to come up with a solution to this issue. But the project could not be initiated as the Kolkata Port Trust did not give the necessary permissions.

"This project was really necessary for this area. The Member, Mayor-in-Council Tarak Singh and the local Councillor should get all due credits for this," said Hakim.

The minister also said that waterlogging has been a long-standing problem for some areas of Alipore. It is to be mentioned here that the people of New Road, Alipore Park used to suffer a lot due to problems related to waterlogging.

"I will congratulate the KMC for this work. The Kolkata Port Trust had not given the permission so the work could not be initiated earlier. But Singh and the local Councillor took this matter very seriously and have done it at last," the minister added.

"The sewer water and rain water has to fall in the nearby canal. So KMC needed necessary permissions for this project. Now, I am happy that the project will start and the local residents will be benefitted," Hakim said.

Singh said this new 1 km drainage line will be laid at a cost of Rs 23 lakh. Singh also said that the project will take two months to be completed.
