Fire breaks out in plastic goods factory, none hurt

Kolkata: A major fire broke out at a plastic goods factory at Falta in South 24-Parganas late on Monday night. About 10 fire tenders were pressed in to action and after almost five hours fire was controlled.

On Monday night around 1:30 am, security guards of a plastic good's factory located at the sector I of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Falta noticed flames. They informed the workers inside the factory and evacuated it. Four fire tenders were sent to douse the fire. But after almost an hour, fire fighters understood that more fire tenders are needed.

Soon six more fire tenders were sent. As the factory was filled with inflammable materials and plastics fire started spreading fast.

The intensity of the fire was so high that it was visible from more than a stretch of one kilometre. Primarily fire fighters stopped the fire from spreading which took almost two hours. Following that fire fighters surrounded the factory and kept on spraying water. Fire fighters reportedly have also used foam. Around 5 am, fire was controlled. Cooling process went on for almost one and half hours more.

Workers and local leaders of trade unions suspect some foul play as factory authorities had removed several workers. Machines related to manufacturing unit were also removed. Workers suspect that there might be some foul play behind the incident. Police have already started a probe in this regard. Fire brigade officials will soon visit the factory again to ascertain the cause of fire. Though there were fire extinguishers found, it is yet to be found whether those were active or expired.
