Fire breaks out at factory in Beliaghata, none injured

Kolkata: A fire broke out inside a plywood factory on Suren Sarkar road in Beliaghata on Sunday afternoon. The incident triggered tension among locals as it is situated in a congested area. Some locals spotted smoke billowing out of the factory and informed the matter to the fire brigade. None was reportedly injured in the incident.
The incident took place a little after 12 pm on Sunday. Altogether six fire tenders were pressed into action to douse the flames. Fire fighters tried to check the spread of the fire to the adjoining areas. They had difficulties in identifying the source of the fire as the area was filled with thick black smoke.
Locals tried to douse the flames but they failed to do so as the fire quickly spread to the other portions of the factory. According to preliminary investigation, fire officials suspect that a huge amount of inflammable materials were stored inside the factory as a result of which the situation aggravated. The workers who were inside the factory at the time of the fire were safely removed. Police cordoned off the entire area and the traffic movement was restricted to check any untoward incident.
The fire fighters brought the fire under control within two hours. Some of the locals also took part in the rescue operation. People living in the adjacent areas were taken to a safer place by the police. The fire officials and police said that there was no adequate fire fighting mechanism in the factory. A detailed probe has been initiated. The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage ate yet to be ascertained.
