Fire in ice cream factory, no casualties reported

Kolkata: Tension ran high at Kidderpore area on Sunday morning after an ice cream factory caught fire.
The local residents spotted smoke billowing out of the ice cream factory situated on 31, Manasatala Lane and informed the matter to the fire brigade. Around six fire tenders were pressed into action to douse the flame. No casualty or injury has, however, been reported in the incident.
As the factory is situated in a congested area, locals panicked as they saw thick black smoke billowing out of the building.
They saw smoke coming out from the factory situated on the ground floor of the building and the area was soon covered up.
The firefighters initially faced difficulties in reaching the source. After rigorous efforts, they managed to bring the situation under control after nearly three hours.
The fire had already started to spread to the other floors of the house. The firefighters tried all possible efforts to restrict the fire in order to avoid it spreading further in the other portions of the building. According to the preliminary investigation, fire brigade officials suspect that some inflammable materials were stored inside the factory which aggravated the situation further.
After being informed, police reached the spot and cordoned off the entire area to check untoward incidents. Police and fire brigade officials suspect that grille cutting was going on the first floor and a spark might have caused the fire. Police came to know the work was also going on to shift the ice cream factory to another place.
Police and fire brigade have started a probe to ascertain if there was adequate fire arrangements in the building or if the ice cream factory had been running with proper clearance. They are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
