Fin Min assures support to gems & jewellery sector

Kolkata: A GJF delegation led by chairman Nitin Khandelwal, along with Shaankar Sen, Avinash Gupta, Ashok Bengani and Suvankar Sen, met state Finance minister Amit Mitra on Wednesday at the Bengal Global Business Summit in Kolkata.
Over the round table discussion with Mitra on the sidelines of the business summit, GJF represented the industry concerns. Mitra fully acknowledged the same and assured to help the industry. "West Bengal government will help make the gems and jewellery industry the best in India as well as the world," he said.
The Finance minister also suggested that he can lead the delegation to Italy and tie up with Italian jewellery clusters to build strong relations with Indian jewellers and promote Make in India.
Apart from the 25,000 sq ft space allotted to GJF for skilling and training artisans, Mitra also assured to provide an additional 20,000 sq ft space to start a common facility centre and instructed GJF to interact with the MD of WBIDC on the same.
With support of West Bengal government, the industry is expected to scale miles higher in terms of quality and state-of-the-art products as per international standards.
