'Filtered water supply to become normal in a day or 2'

Kolkata: The supply of filtered water from Garden Reach water pumping station will be normal within a day or two, Mayor Sovan Chatterjee said on Tuesday.
He thanked the agency repairing the water pump. "They are carrying out the job on a war footing and the problem will be over within a day or two," he said adding "I am associated with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation ( KMC) over the past three decades and have spoken to the senior engineers and others of the water supply department and I found that no one has any experience of a disaster of this magnitude. However, the matter is under control."
Chatterjee alleged that some media with vested interest are circulating fabricated news. He said the picture of garden Reach has changed rapidly in the past few years. Earlier, vast areas had faced acute water scarcity. People had to walk for several miles to get a bucket of water. But now the situation has changed completely. Now, there is adequate drinking water.
The reservoir that developed snag supplies 60 million gallons of drinking water per day and Garden Reach water supply station supplies 185 million gallons of drinking water per day. Divers had to be deployed to take out the submersible pump.
