Fight over cultural event: One dead, several injured

One person was killed and around 15-20 injured after two groups broke into a fight on Monday night.

Police have learnt that the clash broke out over a cultural programme at Khirigram under Kotulpur police station.

One group claimed that the organisers did not have necessary permission to arrange the cultural event, while their rivals insisted that they had all the necessary permission. They accused the other group of intentionally trying to spoil the programme.

The police, however, could not identify the deceased. The investigators suspected that the man came there to attend the cultural function but could not find a way to escape when the fight broke out between the two groups.

"At least 35-40 people were fighting each other. Unfortunately the man could not run away from there and he was beaten up," a police officer said.
