FICN, gold bars & ganja seized, 4 nabbed in 3 cases

Kolkata: Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police nabbed four persons and seized gold bars, fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) and ganja in three separate incidents.

According to STF officials, on Tuesday morning, police were tipped off about a gold smugglers who was coming to Sealdah railway station to go to Burrabazar. Based on the information, a STF team was deployed at the parking lot of Sealdah railway station. In the afternoon, the source identified the accused and STF officials surrounded a Bangladeshi national identified as Sahid Ullah of Comilla in Bangladesh.

During the search, STF personnel found six gold bars concealed inside garments.

He was detained and taken to Entally police station where the gold bars were measured and it was found that the total weight of the seized gold is around 700 gram.

It is suspected that the accused person had crossed the Indo-Bangla border in Bongaon and boarded a train to Sealdah. From there he was supposed to go to Burrabazar where the gold bars were planned to be sold to someone. Police are interrogating him to know who was the proposed buyer of the gold.

Apart from Tuesday, on Monday afternoon, STF officials intercepted a FICN racketeer identified as Uzir Sheikh of Kaliachak in Malda and found huge amount of currency notes of Rs 500 and 2000 denomination.

The accused along with the notes were taken to Entally police station where police confirmed that the notes were fake. Later Sheikh was arrested.

In another case on Monday morning, STF has arrested two persons with huge quantity of ganja.

STF officials got a tip-off on Monday morning that two persons are travelling to the city with some drugs in a car. Based on the information, police intercepted the car on Hide Road in West Port area. During the search, police found five sacks full of ganja.

Later the duo was identified as Dhananjoy Debnath alias Bablu and Biplob Debnath who were found to be Assam based drug peddlers. After weighing the sacks police found that the duo was carrying 133 kg ganja and subsequently they were arrested.
