Fee hike: Guardians protest at BD Memorial School

Kolkata: Tension ran high at BD Memorial School situated at Kamalgazi on Wednesday after guardians started staging demonstration inside the school campus to protest against the school authorities' decision to hike the fees.
The incident had led to the suspension of classes. The situation turned violent when some outsiders pelted stones on the agitating guardians.
Some of the guardians chased the stone pelter and managed to catch hold of one of them.
He was beaten up by the people who were staging demonstration. The guardians were protesting against the hike in annual fees of the students.
Some of the guardians have alleged some outsiders had attacked them when they were taking part in the agitation. They also blamed the school for this incident.
The agitating guardians have alleged that the school authorities hiked the annual school fees in the name of the development of infrastructure. The school authorities on the other hand said that the decision was taken after discussing the matter with the guardians.
The guardians also said that when the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had instructed all the private school authorities not to increase the fees in a manner that it becomes a burden on the parents.
Despite the Chief Minister's instruction the school had increased the annual fee structure by a huge margin, alleged the guardians.
The guardians put up roadblock after being heckled by some of the outsiders.
The guardians have alleged that the school authorities had engaged some of the outsiders to attack the guardians.
Following the incident of roadblock, police reached the spot to bring the situation under control. The roadblock also triggered traffic jam in the locality.
Following the prolonged agitation by the guardians the school authorities finally decided not to increase the additional fees.
