Father-son duo held over family squabble

Kolkata: Baguihati police on Friday arrested a father-son duo, following a bitter family quarrel at the Chaulpatty area in Deshbandhu Nagar. Anup Kumar Shome fired a shot from his air gun at his son, which missed the target.
According to police sources, the dispute began at the dining table on Thursday night when Shome's wife Shampa urged his younger son, who is a homeopathy doctor, to give more money as part of the family expenses.
It has been learnt
that Shampa told her son that he only gives Rs 2,000 a month while his elder brother gives much more for family expenses. The younger son Apurba, who was just ready to have his dinner, became angry and in a fit of rage went to assault his mother. When his father tried to stop him, he was pushed and he fell down on the ground.
Anup retaliated, picking up an iron rod and hitting Apurba on the head.
This act by his father infuriated the latter further and he rushed to assault his father. In the mean time, Anup took out his air gun and fired three shots at his son, which missed the target.
The neighbours had to intervene and police were informed who rushed to the spot.
On the basis of two complaints, one lodged by Apurba against his father and another by Shampa against Apurba, the father-son duo was arrested.
Police have also recovered the air gun from which the shots were fired. It has been learnt that the elder son is a software engineer and earns more than the younger one.
