Father, son arrested for death of youth in Kalighat

Kolkata: Two persons have been arrested for beating up a youth to death at Kalighat. The son and father duo has identified as Kanai Patra and Bapi Patra.

According to sources, Bapi was arrested earlier. But later from his statement and local witnesses police came to know that Kanai was the prime accused. He had badly beaten up Sankar Mondal (25). Kanai confessed to crime on Sunday morning.

Police came to know that a few persons had threatened Mondal on Sunday and in the next morning his body was found. Police also came to know from local witnesses that a few local residents tied Mondal to a tree and asked him to return a mobile phone. A source of police identified Kanai from the CCTV footage.

Mondal was beaten around 2:30 am on Saturday night. He was tied to a tree and assaulted by more than one person. Some locals informed the police about it. Sleuths found the CCTV footage but it was not clear enough to identify any person, sleuths are trying to find who were present there at that point time.

Some locals alleged that he was being beaten for allegedly stealing a mobile phone. But no mobile phone was found on Saturday night when Mondal was beaten up.
