Family robbed at gunpoint in Malda

KOLKATA: A gang of armed perpetrators stormed into a house in Chanchal, Malda and looted valuables at gunpoint.
The police said that a gang of around 4-5 dacoits broke into the house of Sanjay Das, a member of Chanchal panchayat, on Sunday at midnight. Apart from Sanjay, his mother, wife and 5-year-old son were present at the house. The dacoits, with their faces covered, threatened the family.
Sanjay, who was in his room, realised that he was suddenly surrounded by the armed gang. His mother was in the adjacent room when they came into the house.
The family handed over the cupboard keys to the dacoits, who looted ornaments and Rs 16,000 in cash. Before leaving, they threatened the family that if they informed the police, they would abduct the son.
The family told the police that the miscreants came on motorcycles, which they parked outside the house. The family had lodged a complaint with the local police station. The police have started a probe in this regard.
According to the preliminary probe, the police suspect that any one of the gang could have been acquainted with the family and he had prior knowledge about the whereabouts of the house.
