Family ransacks nursing home after death of patient

Kolkata: A mob went on a violent rampage and ransacked a portion of a private nursing home at Raigunj following the death of a patient.
The incident triggered tension among the patients who were undergoing treatment at the hospital. The deceased's family members alleged that the patient was not given proper treatment and had died due to negligence of some doctors. The nursing home authorities have, however, denied any negligence on their part.
Kuheli Bera, a resident of Purba College para area of Raigunj was admitted to Nivedita Nursing Home on Saturday due to labour pain. She was taken to the delivery room on Sunday morning. Her condition deteriorated after she was administered an injection. She was then transferred to Malda Medical College and Hospital where she was declared brought dead.
As the news spread, her family members went to the private nursing home and ransacked a portion of it. It has also been alleged that a mob set fire on a portion of the private nursing home alleging that the patient died due to the application of a wrong injection. A huge contingent of police force rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. A fire tender was also pressed into action to douse the flame. The police are yet to arrest anybody in this connection.
