Family members of deceased ransack Haldia Hospital a day after end of strike

Kolkata: The family members of a woman who died at Haldia Sub-Divisional Hospital, allegedly heckled the hospital superintendent and also ransacked a portion of the hospital, alleging medical negligence.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, a day after the junior doctors' strike was called off at all the medical colleges and hospitals in the state.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, during her meeting with the representatives of the junior doctors at Nabanna on Monday, sent a strong message that no hooliganism would be allowed inside hospital campuses and steps would be taken to enhance the security measures at the hospitals.

It has been learnt that the victim Anjali Pramanik, a local resident, was taken to the hospital on Tuesday, after being bitten by a snake.

The patient died at the hospital, following which the family members went on a rampage ransacking a portion of the hospital.

A mob also allegedly heckled the hospital superintendent. The incident triggered tension among the patients and their family members at the hospital. The health workers at the hospital, who came to the rescue of the hospital super, were also attacked by the family members of the deceased.

It was alleged that some outsiders were involved in the incident as well. Police have arrested a person for his alleged involvement in the incident. A huge contingent of police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. A detailed probe has been initiated in this regard.
