Family allege medical neglect led to death of three-year-old

Kolkata: Tension ran high at MR Bangur Hospital following the death of a three-year-old girl whose family members have alleged medical negligence against the hospital authorities.

The family members have lodged separate complaint with the hospital superintendent and the local police station each.

The victim, Aradhya Chakraborty (3), a resident of Raipur village in Bishnupur, was brought to the hospital on May 12 after she suffered burn injuries. It is said hot tea fell on her chest.

She was initially taken to another hospital in the city and later shifted to the burn unit of MR Bangur Hosital with burn injuries. She had been under medication since her admission.

The family members of the victim alleged that one of the doctors at the hospital administered an injection on the patient on May 19 after which her heath condition started deteriorating.

The patient had started shivering soon after she was administered the medicine. The patient's condition turned worse on Monday and eventually she died on Tuesday.

The exact cause of her death is yet to be ascertained. The body has been sent for the post-mortem examination.

The family members of the victim brought the charges of glaring medical negligence and demanded action against those who were found guilty. They also demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident.

Priyanka Chakraborty, the mother of the victim later went to the local police station and lodged a written complaint in this regard. Another complaint was registered with the hospital authorities. A probe has been initiated.

A chaos broke out on the hospital campus following the incident.

The family members also staged a demonstration at the hospital to protest against the alleged medical negligence by the hospital doctors.

The situation was later brought under control by the security personnel of the hospital.
