Fake notes worth Rs 7L seized

Kolkata: The Murshidabad police have seized fake currency notes worth nearly Rs 7 lakh from Farakka and arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in smuggling fake currency notes.

The accused were remanded in police custody after being produced at Jangipur court on Thursday. They have been identified as Jakir Ghosh and Bapi Ghosh. Both of them are the residents of Kaliachak area in Malda. Most of the fake notes were of

Rs 2000 denominations.

The district police had specific information that there may be an attempt of smuggling along the National Highway 34.

The police officers reached near the Ballalpur bridge on Thursday morning and intercepted the accused.

Police suspect that the duo brought the fake notes to the city from North Bengal. Police also suspect that they may be involved in a fake currency racket operating in the state.

They are trying to identify the kingpins who are behind the smuggling racket.
