Exorcist arrested for trying to rape woman

Kolkata: The Bidhannagar North Police station on Saturday late night arrested an exorcist who had lured a housewife on the pretext of solving her family problems and tried to rape her.

The accused Samser Ali was picked up from his residence at CD Block in Salt Lake on the basis of a complaint of the 23 year old housewife, who is a resident of Kestopur in Baguiati.

Police sources informed that the 23-year-old woman has been suffering from an ailment for more than six months. Her husband owns a shop and was planning to dismantle it.

The accused called the woman to her house on Saturday evening and said that he would offer her some

medicine for quick recovery as well as pray to God for sale of their shop and the deal would fetch a good amount of money. Being a simple woman she believed the words of the quack and went to his residence at 7 pm.

The exorcist told the woman to show him the moles on her body and insisted on letting him see the moles on her private parts and in the process disrobed her. He proposed sexual relation to her and tried to rape her. However, the woman somehow managed to flee.

She returned home and informed the misdeed of the quack to her husband. The locals rushed to the residence of the accused and started beating him up.

However, the police rescued him and on the basis of the victim's complaint immediately arrested him.

"We have slapped a case of molestation and attempt to rape on the basis of the complaint. His activity was pre-planned. He took advantage of the woman's ailing health and committed the offence," a senior police officer of Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate said.
