Ex-boyfriend held for insult on Facebook

On the basis of a complaint lodged by a software engineer at Sector V, police arrested a 25-year-old youth on Friday morning.

The complainant, a woman employee of an information technology major, alleged that the accused Sandip Kumar Dutta posted derogatory comments about her on Facebook. The accused youth even posted her personal phone number on the social media site.

"The accused youth was the ex-boyfriend of the complainant who posted several insulting comments on Facebook about the girl. The accused youth even claimed in his posts that she was a call girl and the phone numbers which were given should be used for contacting her. We have arrested the accused after getting the written complaint from the woman," said a police officer.

Dutta, a BTech from a Basarat-based college, reportedly confessed to his crime to the investigators. Police seized his mobile phone and computer hard disk from his residence.

The investigators learnt that Dutta had been posting such things on Facebook since January this year. The victim, initially, did not know that her ex-boyfriend was committing such crimes. She had realised the matter only a few days ago.

"Dutta created two fake Facebook profiles of the complaint, taking her name and photograph. He even posted some obscene videos and asked other interested people to do the same. The victim got several calls from unknown persons as her phone number was clearly given in the profile," the officer said.

The investigators also learnt that the relationship between Dutta and the complainant discontinued a few months ago. The accused started posting insulting matters soon after the break-off. The accused was produced before the Bidhannagar Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Friday.
