ER conducts high-level meeting on passenger safety

Kolkata: A high-level co-ordination meeting was held at Eastern Railway Headquarters on Friday morning wherein Addl. Director General of Police of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar participated with an aim to ensure passenger security.
Passenger security is one of the important priorities of the Railways in general and Eastern Railway in particular, the meeting was held for better coordination between the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP). It may be mentioned that GRPs are being controlled by the State Police to see the law & order and other activities concerning crime on railway tracks and on station premises.
Addressing the Senior Rail Police Officials (GRP) of Government of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar, Harindra Rao, General Manager,
Eastern Railway urged all the three State Police Chiefs to extend cooperation and better co-ordination to ensure passenger security, which is one of the prime concerns and priorities of the Railways in the present scenario.
General Manager informed that encroachment on Railways has become a matter of great concern resulting in loss of punctuality and causing inconvenience
to the passengers.
He also said Railways is facing a lot of inconvenience when Rail Roko is being organised at various places over Eastern Railway for non-Railway causes.
He requested all the three State Police Chiefs to instruct their officials to cooperate & coordinate in checking the Rail Roko, which causes not only punctuality loss but also a lot of problems to the passengers at large.
