Electoral officer may submit report to ECI on Basu's clarifications
Kolkata: The office of the Chief Electoral Officer has received the clarification from BJP leader Sayantan
Basu, who is also contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Basirhat, on his derogatory comments during an election rally.
The CEO office will go through the clarification report submitted by Sayantan
Basu.
Election Commission officials may take some steps against Basu after going through the clarifications.
On the basis of their observations the election commission officials may submit a report to the Election Commission of India (ECI)in Delhi in this regard.
According to a senior official of the CEO office, a report would be sent to Election Commission of India as the allegation against Basu is serious.
The CEO office may seek the intervention of the Election Commission in this regard.
During an election rally at Bhabla in Basirhat a few
days ago, Basu said he
would ask the Central force personnel not to the fire in the legs but in the chest of those who are found capturing booths during elections.
His statement triggered criticism from various
quarters.
The Trinamool Congress leaders from the
district lodged a complaint against the BJP leader with
the district election officers.
The Basirhat police also started a suo motu case against Sayantan
Basu.
The district election officers also submitted a report to the CEO office mentioning the possible implications of his derogatory comments.
