Elderly woman found in pool of blood at home

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of an elderly woman after she allegedly fell from the roof of a two-storied house at Bansdroni on Wednesday morning.

According to sources, Aparna Dey (69) of Chinsurah in Hooghly had came to her sister's home at Bramhapur in Bansdroni on Monday. Dey was a retired schoolteacher by profession and used to live alone at Chinsurah. She reportedly came to her sister's place for some treatment. On Wednesday morning, around 8:15 am, her sister and other residents felt something heavy fell on the house premises. When they ran to see what had happened, they saw Dey lying in a pool of blood. Immediately, she was rushed to M R Bangur Hospital where doctors declared Dey brought dead. After Dey was declared dead, Bansdroni police station was informed. Later, the police recovered the body and sent it for an autopsy examination. Following that sleuths went to the house where the incident happened.

After having a close look on the roof and the place where Dey was found lying, sleuths suspect that she somehow fell from the roof. Sources informed that since a few days Dey was suffering from mental stress due to her ailments. After preliminary investigation, sleuths were sure that Dey fell from the roof. But it is not sure whether she jumped off from the roof to commit suicide or she had fell accidentally. Primarily, an Unnatural Death (UD) case has been registered. The police are waiting for an autopsy report to identify the exact cause of death.
