Elderly woman found dead outside home

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a 50-year-old woman whose body was found outside her house at Lake Town on Sunday morning.

Police said the victim, Triptikana Ghosh, had been staying in the house for many years.

Police came to know after preliminary investigation that it was around 5 am when other residents of the house heard a thud and went out of their house to find the woman lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries on the back of her head.

They took the woman to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Police were informed and a probe has been initiated in this connection.

Policemen from Lake Town police station went to the spot and spoke to the victim's family members. The police cordoned off the spot where the body was found and examined the place closely.

The investigation revealed that the woman went to the terrace of the house early in the morning.

"Now the first thing that we are trying to ascertain is whether the death is homicidal, suicidal or

accidental in nature," said a police officer adding that the post-mortem report in this case is quite important as it will give them a lead for further investigation.

The police spoke to family members to know whether she used to go to the terrace every morning or she went there only on Sunday.

The investigating officers also came to know that she had been suffering from certain illness.

The police are trying to find whether there is possibility of any foul play behind the incident as the possibility of the victim being pushed by someone from the terrace cannot be ruled out.
