Elderly woman found dead outside daughter's in-laws' house

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of an elderly woman whose body was found near her daughter's in-laws' house.

The incident took place at the Mandalpara area of Jagaddal in North 24 Parganas on Sunday morning. The victim has been identified as Ila Sengupta (73). The local residents found the victim lying adjacent to the house of her daughter's in-laws. It created tension among the local residents who informed the police. The body was later recovered and sent for post-mortem.

According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the woman might have fallen from the roof while hanging clothes. Police are interrogating the relatives of the victim in this connection.

Police said that the victim was also a resident of Jagaddal. She went to her daughter's house for a visit. Police also came to know that she used to come and stay in the house of her daughter on a regular basis as she was left alone in her house.

Police were not, however, ruling out the possibility of any foul play as they are investing into all possible angles. They are waiting for the post-mortem report as it would throw some light on her death.
