Elderly woman dumped in bush after being raped

Kolkata: The body of a woman above 60 years of age was found in a bush near her house in Sonarpur in South 24-Parganas on Wednesday morning. Locals alleged that the woman was murdered after being assaulted sexually by more than one person. Later, her body was dumped in the deserted area. The woman was missing since Tuesday afternoon and her body was found in a mysterious condition on Wednesday. Police found several injuries on her body and her face was smashed with heavy stone to disfigure it beyond recognition. The miscreants had also put pieces of clothing in her mouth so that she couldn't shout.

Some local people, who were going to work on their agricultural land, had spotted the body and informed others in the area. Family members of the woman were also informed. They went to the spot and recognised her by seeing her dress. Police went to the spot and sent the body for an autopsy. Preliminary investigation revealed that someone known to the woman was behind the crime or else it would not have been possible to take her away from the area without being noticed by any of her neighbours. Police also spoke to the local people to get more information to get hold of the accused.
