Elderly persons found dead at home

Kolkata: Two decomposed bodies were found from Bowbazar and Barasat on Sunday. In both cases, the police broke opened the door to recover the bodies.

According to sources, on Sunday afternoon, occupants of a residential building at Ganesh Chandra Avenue experienced a foul smell emanating from inside a flat on the ground floor of the three-storied building. Bowbazar police station was immediately informed.

Police broke the door and found the body of Susanta Gupta (65) in a decomposed condition.

It is suspected that he died at least three days ago. Sleuths came to know that he used to live alone. The police are trying to locate his family members.

In another case, on Sunday morning, local residents of a housing complex located at Nabapally in Barasat experienced a foul smell from inside a flat located on the third

floor.

According to local residents, Sukanya Sengupta, aged about 62 years lived alone in the flat. On Sunday, her neighbours knocked the door of her flat but there was no response. Later Barasat police station was informed.

The police broke open the door and found Sengupta's body in a decomposed state. None had seen her since the past 10 days. Sleuths suspect that Sengupta died due to heart problems at least three to four days ago. Sleuths are trying to find her family members.

In both the cases, no foul play could be suspected. The police are waiting for the autopsy report to find the exact cause of deaths. No complaint was lodged till Sunday night.
