Elderly man repeatedly stabbed by miscreants over eve-teasing row

Kolkata: An elderly man was stabbed indiscriminately by two miscreants after he protested against men teasing one of his daughters in a drunken state on repeated occasions.
Police said the victim, Ekbal Singh (61) had protested against them for consumption of alcohol in public on several occasions. On Monday night, two local youth stormed into the house of the victim on Biresh Guha Street under Karya police station and slashed him with a sharp weapon. The accused broke open the door and beat up the victim. One of the accused hit on his head with a revolver butt. The victim locked his three daughters inside another room when the miscreants attacked his house.
Singh fell on the ground after being hit on his head. The accused then slashed on various parts of his body with a weapon. The screaming of the victim's daughters alerted locals who rushed to the spot. The miscreants, however, managed to flee the spot immediately after the incident. According to locals, the accused came on a motorcycle which was parked outside the victim's house.
They rushed the victim to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital on late Monday night and he was later shifted to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated. His condition is stated to be serious. Locals alleged that the accused used to consume alcohol by the side of the road in the locality. They often teased the women passing through the area. The victim along with some locals protested against the open consumption of liquor. A heated altercation also broke out between the accused and victim.
Two days ago, the accused teased one of the victim's daughters who was passing through the area during evening time. Following the incident, the victim had reportedly slapped one of the accused. To take a revenge, the accused had attacked him on Monday, police suspect. Raids are being conducted to nab the culprits.
