Elderly dies after being slapped by 'rogue' driver

Kolkata: An elderly person died after being hit by a man on the road in Bhownipore on Thursday. After the elderly person fell on the road, the accused person fled the spot on a car.

According to sources, on Thursday afternoon, Ramesh Behl (65) a resident of Bakul Bagan Road in Bhowanipore, was boarding his car in front of an apartment. Ramesh, who was owner of a private security service provider, was going to his office.

As he was not fit enough, he was taking time to get into car. At that moment another car came behind his car and started sounding horns.

Despite the driver of Ramesh asked the driver to wait, the accused person did not bother to listen to him. On the contrary, the accused person drove his car and hit Ramesh's car.

When Ramesh protested and got down from his car, the accused person also got down. Following that he slapped Ramesh.

As the elderly person was a patient of spondylitis. He lost control over his body and fell on the road. As soon as he hit the ground, accused driver fled the spot on his car while others were busy with Ramesh.

The elderly person was rushed to a nursing home where he was declared brought dead.

Later, his family members lodged a complaint at the Bhowanipore police station. Though it is being said that the accused person is a lawyer and resides in the vicinity of Ramesh's residence, it is not yet confirmed.

Though police have initiated a case of culpable homicide not amounting to

murder, till Friday night the accused person was not arrested.

On Friday, Ramesh's daughter Puja Behl said: "I don't know why it is taking such a long time. There were several persons gathered at the spot at the time of incident, I am

sure that they had seen the accused." Deputy Commissioner of South Division, Meeraz Khalid said: "Probe is on. We are trying to find the accused person."
