ED attaches property of RP Info Systems worth Rs 100 cr

Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has already attached properties worth Rs 100 crore of RP Info Systems, the company where Kaustuv Roy and Shivaji Panja were the two directors.
The properties are located not only in Kolkata but also in Ahmedabad and a few other places, according to ED sources.
It was the third week of March, when ED had initiated the process of attaching assets and properties of RP Info Systems, a private IT firm accused of a bank fraud of RS 515.15 crore. Roy and Panja were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on March 15.
Sources in the ED said that they would also attach assets and properties of the companies in which RP had invested. ED has been attaching the assets and properties bought in exchange of the bank loan, which was obtained against the submission of forged documents.
It may be mentioned that the ED probe is running parallel to the one being conducted by CBI's bank security and fraud cell.
In February, Canara Bank had lodged a complaint to the CBI, alleging that the firm's directors Shivaji Panja, Kaustuv Roy and Vinay Bafna had cheated them and nine other members of a banking consortium, to the tune of Rs 515.15 crore.
It claimed that the loans were taken on the basis of false and fabricated documents.
It may be mentioned that CBI had registered a case against RP Info Systems and its directors on February 28, in connection with a number of loans sanctioned between January 2012 and September 2013.
