Duping case: Associate of BJP leader arrested

Kolkata: An associate of BJP's trade union leader Baban Ghosh has been arrested at Sarsuna police station on Friday. The accused, identified as Saddam Ansari, is one of the names mentioned in the FIR.

According to sources, being close to Ghosh, Ansari used to go with him everywhere. He also reportedly came in touch with BJP leader Mukul Roy through Ghosh. Later, Ansari even developed a good relation with Roy and started following his instructions. On Friday, he was arrested from Babughat area.

Ghosh was arrested earlier on Wednesday, for allegedly duping a businessman by promising him a berth in one of the railway committees. According to police, businessman Santu Ganguly had lodged a complaint against Ghosh and a few others on duping charges. BJP leader Mukul Roy was also named in the complaint.

Ganguly claimed that he had given Rs 65 lakh to Ghosh between 2015 and 2016. According to sources, Ghosh had allegedly taken Mukul Roy's name to instill confidence in Ganguly and get the money out of him. Ganguly had given the money in phases between 2015 and 2016. However, several years passed since but Ganguly did not get the railway committee berth and failed to meet Ghosh or get in touch with him over the phone.

On January 25 this year, Ganguly lodged a complaint at the Sarsuna police station against Ghosh and a few others. On Tuesday night, Ghosh was detained at his house at Shakuntala Park in Patuli. He was grilled throughout the night and was arrested early on Wednesday morning.
