Duo arrested for stealing ring from jewellery shop

Kolkata: Two miscreants were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stealing a gold ring from a well-known jewellery shop on September 9. They were produced before the Sealdah court and were remanded to police custody till November 1.

According to the police, on September 9, around 3 pm, two persons reached the jewellery shop located at 129, B B Ganguly Street and asked the salesman to show some rings. When the salesman was showing them a few types of rings, one of the accused persons stole a ring and hid it in his clothes. A few minutes later, they left the shop saying that the rings were not worth the price.

After the duo left, when the salesman was checking the rings, he found one stone-studded ring was missing from the tray. He immediately informed the shop manager and expressed his suspicion on the duo.

Later, the salesman lodged a complaint at Muchipara police station.

During the investigation, the police collected the CCTV footages from the shop and started scrutinising it. During the scrutiny, police personnel identified the duo and saw one of them stealing the ring while another was keeping the salesman busy. Later, the case was handed over to the watch section of Detective Department.

After a few days of the incident, the police sent the pictures of the two suspects to their sources to find the duo. On Wednesday, the police got a tip-off that one of the miscreant lives at New Barrackpore area in North 24 -Parganas. Immediately, a raid was conducted at the house of Sunil Bhar alias Babu at Ashram Para in New Barrackpore. After questioning him, the police raided another house at Bally in Howrah and nabbed another accused person identified as Nirmalya Bhaduri alias Rana.

After interrogation of the duo, police recovered the stone-studded gold ring from Rana's house, which was stolen from the jewellery shop on September 9. During further interrogation, the duo said they stolen jewellery earlier as well. The police found two gold bangles and a gold chain, which were stolen from various jewellery shops located in Regent Park, Kalighat and Gariahat areas.
