Dum Dum Muncipality councillor's husband found dead in shop

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of Dum Dum Municipality councillor's husband. The deceased identified as Nirmal Kundu was the husband of Supriya Kundu, councillor of Dum Dum Municipality. His body was found hanged inside his shop on Monday.

According to sources, Supriya and Nirmal used to reside at a flat at Kamalapur in Dum Dum. Supriya was elected as a councillor from ward Number 11 in the last municipality elections.

Her husband Nirmal was a popular Trinamool Congress leader. He ran a stationary shop on the ground floor of the building that housed their apartment.

On Sunday night he went to sleep inside the shop. As he used to sleep there often, Supriya and other family members did not doubt anything suspicious. On Monday morning, their neighbours saw that the lights inside the shop were on. When some of them knocked on the shop's shutter which was locked from inside, however, no one responded.

Immediately they informed Supriya. After a few minutes, she along with other family knocked on the shutter but Nirmal did not respond. They informed Dum Dum police station. The police came and broke the shutter and found Nirmal hanging from ceiling fan with the help of a nylon rope. He was brought down and rushed to Dum Dum Hospital where Nirmal was declared brought dead. Sources claimed that he was going through depression since Trinamool's result in the Lok Sabha elections in Dum Dum was not up to the mark.

Also, he was suffering from various ailments and had almost stopped stepping out of his home. An Unnatural Death (UD) case has been lodged at the Dum Dum police station. No suicide note was found from the incident site.
