Drug racket busted, two women arrested

Kolkata: Two women were arrested from Munchipara area in central Kolkata on charges of their involvement with a drug selling racket.
Acting on a tip off, police conducted a raid on Tuesday and arrested Mamata Sheikh and Shymali Sikari, alias, Beauty. Police recovered heroin worth Rs 1 lakh from the accused.
The Narcotic Cell of the Detective Department of Kolkata Police had prior information that the duo would be assembling at a point in central Kolkata to sell the consignment and it was on Tuesday morning, the police received a tip off that a deal is going to take place in Munchipara area.
Based on the tip off, a team of policemen headed by sub-inspector Abhik Das of the Narcotics Cell went to the spot and caught the duo red handed from BB Ganguly Street. A police officer said they have recovered 112.50 gms of heroine from their possession and it worth more than Rs 1 lakh.
Police are considering the arrest to be a major breakthrough as it would help them to get hold of other members of the racket for who they were been operating.
Police are also trying to find out how they were involved in the racket of selling and supplying of drugs.
It may be recalled that the Kolkata Police had arrested three youth including a resident of Jharkhand on similar charges. They were arrested from in front of a five start hotel on Park Street. Gunjan Singh, who is a resident of Jharkhand, was an employee of a hotel in Mumbai. While the two others - Urvil Jaiswal, alias, Shyam and Subhasish Naskar – were residents of Narendrapur in South 24-Parganas. Police had seized total 11.6 gm MDMA from them.
