Drowned swimmer's body recovered

The disaster management team on early Saturday morning recovered the body of Kajal Dutta, a national level swimmer and retired Customs employee who drowned in a swimming pool at College Square on Friday.
Police are yet to ascertain the reasons how a champion swimmer like Dutta drowned where he used to train young swimmers. The body was recovered almost after 20 hours since the elderly person drowned in the pool. Life member of Bowbazar Bayam Samiti, Dutta used to visit swimming pool quite often for swimming.
The divers and the local water polo players carried out an extensive search throughout the day on Friday but failed to trace the victim. The disaster management team also started the search operation and finally traced the body at around 3.30 am on Saturday.
During the search operation, the rescue team had a glimpse of victim's hand from under the swimming bay and then some of the members went beneath the bay to find that the body was stuck under the swimming bay. The body was taken out of the pool and later handed over to the police. The body has been sent to the NRS Hospital for the post-mortem examination.
Police have started a detailed probe in this regard to ascertain how the victim drowned. The investigating officer is waiting for the post-mortem report which could throw some light on his death.
