DRI arrests 3 smugglers, seizes 8 kg gold

Kolkata: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Thursday arrested three persons on charges of smuggling eight kg gold into the country from Bangladesh. The seized gold is worth Rs 3.29 crore.

Acting on a tip-off, the DRI officials nabbed Munnawar Alam, Md Faisal and Altaf when they were trying to leave the city with the smuggled gold in a car, from Kona Expressway on Thursday.

The smuggled gold was concealed inside the vehicle, a DRI statement said. DRI officials also recovered Rs 14,000 from them.

The intercepted vehicle was brought to DRI's office. The accused will be produced before the concerned court.
