DPR on widening of Kona Expressway to be submitted soon

Kolkata: RITES will be submitting the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed project on widening of Kona Expressway by March 31.
It may be mentioned that the Highway Division of Rites has been preparing the DPR and the task is almost complete. According to a senior official of Rites, the DPR will be handed over to the authorities of the West Bengal Highway Development Corporation that will be undertaking the work of widening the road.
The road is the gateway to the city as it leads to National Highway 2 and 6. Moreover, it connects the Vidyasagar Setu.
The work of widening the road will start from near the state secretariat, Nabanna and with completion of the project, congestion on the major thoroughfare will be a matter of the past. Moreover, it was also equally important to widen the road as the Santragachi Station will also be upgraded and the traffic load on the road would get multiplied with the development of the station.
The official said there would be no problem with the land required for widening the road as it is
well available.
There are some locations where small pieces of land need to be acquired for the project. However, there are encroachments in some of the lands which are available for the project.
According to the official, it would not be a difficult task to clear the encroachment and carry out the work. All the necessary tasks needed to be done to initiate the work will also be carried out without any delay after the submission of the DPR.
