Doctor's body found in Baguiati flat

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a doctor whose body was found inside his flat at Baguiati in northern

fringes of the city on Monday morning.

The victim has been identified as Mayank Vashisth (33).

The victim used to live as

a tenant at the house of Anupam Ghosh of Krishnapur under Baguiati police station.

The landlord found that the victim did not step out of his room since Saturday evening.

He tried to contact his family members in Delhi but he couldn't get in touch with them. The victim was originally from Nimri Colony, Ashok Bihar, northwest Delhi.

The local residents on Monday morning sensed a foul smell was coming from his room and informed the matter to the local police station. The police reached the spot

and broke open the door of the flat with help of local people and found that the body of Vashisth had been lying in the kitchen in a highly decomposed state.

The body was later taken to a nearby hospital for the an autopsy. Police are waiting for the post mortem report.

Police suspect that the victim might have committed suicide as the door was locked from inside.

Cops are also investigating if anybody had instigated him to take the extreme step. A detailed probe has been initiated in this regard.

Police have also called up the victim's family members. The police officers are examining Vashisth's mobile phone to ascertain the cause behind the suicide.
