Dispute over flying kites leads to minor's death, friend arrested

Kolkata: A quarrel between two minor boys over flying kites led to the death of one of them. The incident created a sensation at Magrahat area under Usti police station in South 24 Parganas.
Police said that the victim Pranab Chakraborty (12) was flying kites with his friend Munna Mondal at Magrahat on Saturday afternoon when a quarrel broke out between them. The thread of the kite Pranab was flying somehow cut the thread of the kite Munna was flying.
This had made Munna so angry that he hit his friend Pranab on his head with the kite latai. The victim received serious injuries on his head and lost consciousness when he was pushed into a small waterbody situated in the area.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the accused Munna pushed the victim into the puddle.
As the victim did not return home in the evening, the family members started a search in the neighbouring areas and contacted some of their relatives but failed to get any trace of the victim. Having failed, the family members finally lodged a missing dairy at the police station. After receiving the compliant, police started a search operation but to little success.
Police went to Munna's house and interrogated him. During the interrogation the accused admitted that he had beaten him to death and later dumped the body into a waterbody situated close to his house. Late on Saturday night, the police finally recovered
the body of the victim from the area.
Pranab's family members, however, alleged that Munna's family members might have been involved in the incident and demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident. Police have detained the accused and later arrested him after a prolonged interrogation. A detailed probe has been initiated.
