Diabetes & Endocrinology Forum to start cardiac diabetes course for KMC doctors

Kolkata: Diabetes and Endocrinology Forum (DEF) will start a cardiac diabetes course for the doctors at Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and will also provide free insulin to patients suffering from type 1 diabetes under KMC area.
DEF will sign a memorandum-of-understanding (MoU) with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Monday in this regard. It has been learnt that the DEF will train permanent doctors of KMC on cardiac diabetes.
The total duration of the course will be between four and twelve months. Apart from diabetes, the training course will also include COPD and thyroid.
As per plan, a special clinic will be opened at all the borough offices of KMC, where patients with chronic history of diabetes would be referred to.
There will be specially trained health employees of KMC, who will make people aware on how to take insulin at home. Both type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients under the jurisdiction of KMC will be provided treatment at the clinic.
The patients suffering from type 1 diabetes will be provided insulin completely free of cost. When a patient comes to the primary health care centres at various wards, he/she will be inquired by the KMC doctors about their ailments in detail. Only those requiring insulin will be sent to the special clinics, which will come up at the borough level.
One of the main purposes behind organising the training is to mitigate cardiovascular risk in diabetes. DEF is organised its 8th 'Diabetes Update 2018, Kolkata', at a city hotel on Sunday.
