Devotees' delight: Mamata to inaugurate Dakshineswar skywalk today

Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate the skywalk at Dakshineswar on Monday.

Firhad Hakim, the state Urban Development and Municipal Affairs minister, will also be present at the inaugural ceremony.

Locals are waiting for the moment eagerly to welcome the Chief Minister. They will also congratulate her for the milestone project that has given a complete new look to the area and help lakhs of pilgrims visiting Dakshineswar.

It may be mentioned that with setting up of the skywalk, pilgrims can easily reach the temple avoiding any sort of crowd. Pilgrims no more have to travel on the road to reach the temple and they can walk safely from the nearest railway station up to the temple premises without fearing of getting hit by any vehicle.

The inauguration of the skywalk ahead of Kali Puja is a major move of the state government as lakhs of pilgrims visit Dakshineswar this time. It may be mentioned that around 1.3 crore devotees turn up at the temple every year.

The 340-metre long skywalk that has been built at a cost of Rs 65 crore will also help to check traffic congestion in the area.

Security in and around the area has been tightened to ensure that no untoward incident takes place when the Chief Minister visit the place for its inauguration.

Bomb and dog squads have initiated frisking operations and the police are maintaining close vigil in the area.

The preparation for the inaugural ceremony is also going on in full swing and a large number of people will be gathering at the spot to witness the historic inauguration of the skywalk.
