Develop positive attitude, discard negative thoughts, says Mamata to city students

Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has advised the student community to develop positive attitude in life and never allow depression to overtake them.

"Develop positive attitude and do not allow any negative thought to overtake you. To spread canard is a negative attitude, so give up the habit," she told students in an interactive session organised by a vernacular television channel at an auditorium in South Kolkata on Friday evening.

Asked to comment on the best part of her life, Banerjee said: "I personally feel that the days when I used to organise movements to establish what is right was the best part of my life. I still believe in movements. I have worked for the poor masses and will continue to do so in future," she said.

Banerjee advised the students to exercise regularly to build their health and develop good habits. "We follow a sedentary lifestyle and to come out of this, the students should exercise regularly," she said, adding: "I cover 10 km on a treadmill machine in the morning before going to office and then in office I take a stroll. This helps me to keep my body fit."

The students urged her to set up an audio library for the visually impaired students and introduce spoken English in the undergraduate level for the benefit of those who come from the Bengali medium.

"It is true that those who come from Bengali medium schools cannot speak fluent English like their counterparts who come from English medium background. But that does not matter. Have confidence in yourself. The language can be picked up from various sources these days."

When asked what would have been her profession had she not joined politics, Banerjee said: "It is difficult for me to say now, but surely I would not have divided the country, no matter what my profession would have been."

The vernacular television channel felicitated some industrialists including

Umesh Chowdhary, MD, Titagarh Wagons, Sumit Dabriwalla, MD, Agre Developers, Mayank Jalan, chairman and MD, Keventer Agro, Nehul Mohanka, MD, Tega India and Rudra Chatterjee, MD, Luxmi group.

Indranil Sen, minister of state for Information and Cultural Affairs, sung the song Roudra chayae sakalbelae dustu misti hashi, written and composed by Mamata Banerjee. The song will be released during this Puja.
