Detective dept busts fake lottery racket, four arrested

Kolkata: The detective department of Kolkata Police busted a racket that would fabricate lottery tickets of different state government lotteries and thereby cheat lakhs of money from common people as well as lottery ticket vendors in the city. The police arrested four persons who are residents of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha in this connection.
A resident of Kalindi Housing Scheme in Lake Town, one Shakti Shaw, had lodged a compliant with the police alleging that a person named Sunil Sharma of village Majara under Samsabad police station in Agra in connivance with others prepared fake and fabricated lottery tickets of different state government lotteries and by means of tampering the winning digits, produced those as genuine. The complainant further stated that the racket cheated huge lakhs of money from him as well as other lottery ticket vendors in the city for the last seven months.
The sleuths took up the probe and apprehended Sharma of Samsabad Agra. After interrogating him, the sleuths persuaded his statement and nabbed the other racketeers namely Prabir Das of Kondrapara, Odisha under Aul police station, Amaresh Kumat Gupta of Mathurapur, Bihar and Bala Amrit Shah of Sitamari, Bihar.
"We have seized a good number of forged lottery tickets from their possession. The accused persons formed a racket and used to commit this crime from a private lodge at Golbari in Howrah," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Vishal Garg said.
All the accused have been remanded to police custody till September 11.
