Design of National Centre for Excellence in Football to be finalised soon

Kolkata: The design of the National Centre for Excellence in Football of All India Football Federation (AIFF) at New Town, is expected to be finalised in the next two months.
AIFF president Praful Patel held a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Nabanna in this regard on Friday. After the meeting, Patel said: "Consultants have been appointed. The centres of excellence in the world are being explored and based on that, we are likely to come up with a final design in the next two months."
He further said: "I have promised the Chief Minister that there will be a bhumi pujan before Durga Puja, to mark the beginning of the construction of the project."
He maintained: "Of course this is an AIFF initiative. But we have also requested the Centre to support us in this project. FIFA has also been approached. We will be able to set up a football academy which will come up as a centre of excellence in the world."
It may be recalled that the Mamata Banerjee government had given a 15 acre land at New Town to AIFF, to set up the National Centre for Excellence in Football. During his visit to the city ahead of the FIFA Under-17 Football World Cup, Patel had proposed a plan for the centre of excellence in Kolkata.
