Deputy Commissioner rank officers of Kolkata Police to assist divisional DCs

Kolkata: In a major decision, a Deputy Commissioner (DC) rank officer will be deployed in each divisions of Kolkata Police to assist the divisional DCs. An order in this regard has been passed on September 4.
The order stated: "The matter of engagement of an officer of Kolkata Police equivalent to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police in each
division of Kolkata Police for assisting the Head of the offices of each division is under active consideration for some time past".
It further states: "After careful consideration of the matter it is ordered to engage an officer equivalent to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police," in the divisions.
As per the order, Nilanjan Biswas, who is at present posted as the DC of the Kolkata Armed Police's (KAP) third battalion, will be assisting the DC of the South West Division. Similarly, DC of the Reserve Force (RF) Biswajit Ghosh will be assisting the Deputy Commissioner of the Port Division. Bhola Nath Pandey, DC of the fifth battalion of KAP, will be extending necessary support to the DC of the Eastern Sub-urban Division, DC of the South East Division will be assisted by Nimbalkar Santosh Uttamrao, who is the DC of the KAP's second battalion and the DC of Enforcement Branch Debasis Sarkar will be extending assistance to DC of the Central Division.
According to a senior police officer, at present, the order has been passed to post an additional DC rank officer in five divisions of the city police. "It is expected to be implemented in the remaining three as well in the next few months," the officer said.
It has been stated that the DC rank officer will be extending assistance in "day-to-day administrative functions, supervision of crime and investigation of cases, law and order duties, sign a bill or order on behalf of the head of the office…and any other duties assigned by the Commissioner of the Police".
