Delay in results: Burdwan University V-C meets Partha

Kolkata: Vice-chancellor of Burdwan University on Monday met state Education minister Partha Chatterjee at his Naktala residence on Monday morning regarding the uncertainty over the publication of results and admission process in the university.
The students are presently in the dark with the varsity finding irregularities in its contract with a noted IT company, where the latter has been entrusted with the responsibility to publish results and conduct the admission process.
The contract was signed by the former vice-chancellor and registrar of the university in 2015.
Sources said the minister had advised Burdwan university Nimai Saha to discuss with the concerned IT company and come out with a solution in this regard.
"The minister has made it clear that the department will ensure that students do not face inconvenience by any means," a senior official of the department said.
Saha, however, remained tight lipped over the outcome of the meeting with the minister.
It may be mentioned that the contract with the IT company was signed during the tenure of previous VC Smritikumar Sarkar and was expected to end in 2020.
Presently, nearly 70 lakh students are associated with the varsity that offers education both in regular and distance
education mode.
"We have presently stalled all our interactive activities with the
IT company and have also written to the state Education department informing them of the irregularities that we have found in the contract," an official of the varsity said on conditions of anonymity.
It may be mentioned that all the documents in connection with the results and the admission process of the varsity is with the IT company.
Hence, the university has a tough task to ensure that students do not suffer by any means.
In recent times, there have been instances where the university has witnessed student unrest over irregularities in academic matters.
