Decomposed body of woman found in sack

Kolkata: The decomposed body of a woman was recovered from a sack at Bagbazar Ghat under North Port police station area on Wednesday evening. The police have circulated the photograph of the woman along with her description in all police stations in Kolkata and its adjoining areas for ascertaining her identity.

"We believe that the woman is about 22- 28 years old was murdered elsewhere and put into a sack and thrown into Ganga following which it reached the side of the river. Her face was battered and there were severe injury marks on her head," an officer of North Port police station said.

The police had stumbled upon two tattoos with contrasting words in the two hands of the woman.

The deceased was wearing a saree having a blend of yellow and green colour. Rupa was written in one of her hand while in another there was a trident (trishul) with OM written on it. "It seems that whoever had murdered the woman bore a deep grudge against her with the nature of injuries being inflicted on her," a police officer said.

The anti-homicide wing of Kolkata Police's Detective department also visited the spot for investigation.

The body was found by some passengers while boarding ferry in the evening. The police was immediately informed. Officials reached the spot and sent the body for post mortem. The post-mortem examination that was conducted was inconclusive. The police constituted a three-member board for a second round of post-mortem.
