Decomposed body of woman found

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a 65-year-old woman, whose decomposed body was recovered from her house at Lake Avenue on Wednesday morning.

The victim has been identified as Kalpana Das. The incident has triggered tension in the locality. The local people felt a pungent smell on Wednesday morning and informed the police.

Some police personnel later reached the spot and found the body lying on the floor of her house in a decomposed condition. Apparently, there were no injury marks on her body.

Police later recovered the decomposed body of the elderly woman. According to the police, the victim used to live in the house alone since the death of her husband.

The investigators also collected samples from her room where she was found dead.

The body was sent to MR Bangur Hospital for post-mortem examination, as it would throw some light on the death of the woman. Police are yet to confirm the exact cause of her death.

They are investigating to know if she died a natural death due to ailments or if there was any foul play behind the incident. Investigators are looking into all possible causes which could have led to her death.

According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the victim might have died three days ago. The local residents also told the police that they had not seen the deceased for the past few days.

The woman, however, seldom used to set out of her house as she had been suffering from various age-related ailments. The police have contacted the relatives of the deceased. They are interrogating her neighbours to get some more information regarding the case.

A local resident told the police that her husband had died a couple of years ago, since when she had been the sole resident of the house.

In the past few months, she did not come out of her house quite often. Police have started a case of unnatural death in this connection. A detailed probe has been initiated. Police are awaiting the post-mortem report.
