Debanjan Das from South Point High School is CBSE Class XII topper in Eastern Region

Kolkata: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Class -XII results on Thursday.

This year, the overall pass percentage is 83.4 per cent. The pass per cent of girls is 88.70 while 79.40 per cent boys passed the examination.

Toppers Hansika Shukla from Ghaziabad and Karishma Arora from Muzaffarnagar scored 499 out of 500 marks. The pass out rate of girls' is 9 per cent more than boys this year.

Altogether 520 students from South Point High School appeared in the CBSE examination this year. Debanjan Das from South Point High School is the overall topper in the Eastern Region of CBSE (comprising West Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand and part of Chhattisgarh).

He studied under the Humanities stream and scored 98.6 per cent marks.

Angikar Ghosal of South Point High School from science stream scored 97.4 per cent while Chaitanya Jhunjhunwala of the commerce stream scored 96.6 per cent.

Various education institutes in the city fared better than last year, including Apeejay, DPS Ruby Park, Birla High and BD Memorial. Kendriya Vidyalaya schools in Bengal too, recorded a higher pass percentage this year. Last year, students from 41 Kendriya Vidyalayas took the exams while this year the number went up to 52. The examination was held at 15 Kendriya Vidyalayas in Bengal.

Around 13 lakh students appeared for the CBSE Class XII examination. The results have been announced within 28 days of the last date of the examination.

The Class XII examination began on February 16, earlier than previous years. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee posted a congratulatory message on social media wishing luck to all the students who passed the examination for their future endeavours.
