Dead chicken row: Police unearth more supplier farms

Kolkata: Police have come to know about more chicken farms from where dead chickens were supplied to eateries.
The police have come to know about it after interrogating Kausar Ali Dhali, owner of the chicken farm at Rajarhat. Kausar was arrested on Thursday morning from Hasnabad and it may be recalled that a huge quantity of dead chicken was found stored in the refrigerators in his chicken farm.
During interrogation the police came to know that he not only used to sell chicken which used to die in his farm, but also used to collect dead chicken from other farms.
After collecting dead chicken from other farms, Kausar used to process the chicken and store it in refrigerators. Later, the same used to get distributed to different eateries.
The matter had come to light when policemen from Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate conducted raids in an eatery near the airport and found frozen chicken. The employees of the eatery had taken the police to the farm owned by Kausar at Rajarhat.
The police are now preparing the list of the chicken farms from where Kausar used to collect dead chicken.
The police have also come to know that the same used to get transported to different parts of the state as well and they have also prepared a list containing registration numbers of the vehicles which were engaged by Kausar to transport dead chicken.
Police suspect that there could be many more people who were involved in the racket that was run by Kausar, to make fast money by selling dead chicken.
The police are now interrogating him to know the names of other people involved in the racket and waiting to arrest them, to bring an end to the trade of dead chicken.
The police also questioned Kausar to know how far he had managed to spread the tentacles of his business of "dead chicken" and they are suspecting that traders from different markets, mainly in the South Bengal districts, had links with Kausar.
They used to sell processed dead chicken after taking it from Kausar. The police will be conducting raids at different places after getting to know the names of others involved in the racket. The police are also maintaining a strict vigil now to check recurrence of such activity.
